Characteristics
The Jiu is one of the biggest rivers flowing south from the Southern Carpathians. Two rivers, the Eastern Jiu, coming form the Retezat Mountains, and the western Jiu, coming from the Parang and Godeanu Mountains, form the Jiu, just befor it cuts its way into the mountais, in a deep, narrow, rocky canyon, offering beautiful sights for tourists.
The upper part of the river, which we call canyon section, is one of the most spectacular places for rafting in our country. High level white-water, in a very narrow gorge, between cliffs sometimes higher than 30 meters, with tight curves, huge rocks, big - wave portions – everything you need for a great rafting trip.
The lower part of the river is wider, with huge waves, and boulders to avoid, but it’s not as difficult, as the upper part.
In two days both of these trips can be done.
Other activities that we organize in this region: cycling, kayaking, canyoning, flying fox, rappel, archery, caving, trekking
