Buzau is the closest whitewater to Bucharest. Because water from the Siriu Lake is used to produce electricity, day by day, on the lower part of the river the water level is high enough for rafting even in the dry summer months. 

Rafting route:
Trip 1: Starting below the Siriu Lake, length: 10km, 2-3 hours
Trip 2: Starting above the Siriu Lake, length: 7 km, 2-3 hours

Difficulty level: WW I - III+ (easy-medium)

Characteristics: 
This is the most important river that runs trough Buzau County, gathering the creeks and streams from the Ciucas Mountains and South- eastern Carpathians, it flows into the mighty Siret.

Where the river crosses the Carpathians, trough the years it has carved into the sedimentary rock a very narrow gorge with huge, round sandstone rocks, perfect for white-water enthusiasts. Below this gorge, a large dam was built in the 1960’s, and today Lake Siriu offers a magnificent view.

Route 1 on the lower Buzau River is ideal for rafting with 6-9 person boats, huge waves and nice big rocks, small drops, making it an unforgettable experience for everyone.
Route 2 is a much more technical run, suitable for 2-3 person in-line rafts, or white water kayaks.

In two days, both of them can be done, giving you a whole weekend of adrenalin full excitement. If the water level is high enough the Basca Mare, the Buzau river’s biggest affluent, is also a great place to go, a nice, clean, WW I-III run, that continues with the lower part of the Buzau River.
